The Professional Photographers of Canada British Columbia had their 2015 salon this past weekend. All members are invited to submit up to four images each year and a panel of judges classify the submissions as being “not accepted” into the show, “accepted” into the show where the images meet the qualifications of the PPOC-BC as professional images, “merit” images and those of “excellence”.
I had the highest scoring images with three merit images and one excellence.
Reining: the Slide, was entered in the editorial category and received a Merit. It is of Clay Webster during a reining demonstration. It was my first night using my new D4 and a 200 F2 lens. The capture was at F2, 1/200 second and 2,800 ISO. I was really excited to have the ability to shoot action in a very dark arena.
West Wind was entered as Fine Art and received a Merit. I put it in as an experiment as I had just started with the Landscape Impressions. It was taken out of a car window panning against the car’s movement at 240mm, 1/5th second, F36 and ISO 100.
Hair by James is my other Merit image is in the Fashion Category and also won Best Fashion Image. This image is part of a hair collection by James Valiant and in the semi finals at Contessa (the Canadian Hairstyling Awards).
At the Docks is my excellence image. It is a digital pinhole image taken at the Steveston docks midday during a winter rain. Settings are 0.8 seconds and ISO 100. At the Docks also won the Best Experimental Image as well as the Most Creative Image in the salon:
